In the U.S., food allergies affect approximately 8% of children and 11% of adults, according to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (March 8, 2023). This translates into about 1 in 10 adults and 1 in 13 children (FARE, 2024).
While the majority of food allergies are diagnosed in children, a surprising 15% of food allergies are diagnosed when we’re adults. Michael Foods’ “Understanding Food Allergy” is a free online continuing education course that examines the nine most common food allergies, associated symptoms, and the differences between a food allergy and food intolerance.
